filezilla updated and i shut it down

next time i booted up screen came up black/blank from turning on all the way into windows intro chimes and entering password.

i can only assume things are working properly other than not displaying video because popped in cd and music starts to play.

connected a monitor via hdmi to hdmi but no signal.

any suggestions on what i can do to trouble shoot ?|||In addition, laptops usually have a key to switch the display between the laptop screen and an external monitor. Maybe you hit this by accident??

Usually one of the function keys at the top have a little monitor icon in it, you have to press the FN key plus the other key. Sometimes you need to cycle through this two or three times.|||The issue seems to be with the display drivers. Also check the brightness settings of your laptop.

I recommend you to reinstall the display drivers by connecting the computer to an external monitor such as hdmi. If there is no display even on the external monitor, then the issue is with graphic adapter which needs to replaced.
