I am looking into getting a laptop computer sometime later this year. I was wondering what type of video cards they take? What I mean by this is . . . I know PCs have AGP, PCI, and PCI Express bus types, but what kinds do laptops/notebooks have?|||Special. Most laptops don't take updated video cards. They would be special made. You have to check with your laptop's manufacturer.
So if you BUY a laptop, get the TOP video card, if that's your concern. That will be the only video card that you have.
Look for specifications, such as
DirectX 10 and other specs, as well as the type of SLOT that it goes into. Then check the GAME.
If you are a GAMER, you are much better off with a desktop, since they take standard video cards. Today, you would pick a desktop that uses the so-called PCI Express 16 slot.|||Laptops have their own special type of graphics chip. In other words, it doesnt matter. You will be unable to add or modify it in any way.|||laptops r not very upgradable unless you have relatively recent laptop which has options for upgrading the video card
mind you if it is possible it still is very expensive|||normally laptops are not as simple especially nowadays the graphics card is built into the motherboard some are not. i happen to have a dell inspiron 8200 and was able to get a 64mb video card from ebay to replace my 32mb. this was possible because of the specific laptop i have. i suggest that at the time of purchase you make the decision to go with the best available at the time. dell is good for having different options for video cards at the time of configuration, the only setback is yu have to do it online and need to wait for it to ship. if you were planning on buy it at a store you will not have that option you would have to shop around and compare features
